I have long admired the poetry of Roger McGough, especially his self-mocking quatrains. Roger is the gentlest Muse of Merseyside and his work often belies a more complex truth: that if he has never been taken as seriously as he’d have liked or deserved, it is partly his own fault.

This is adorable. I have read the poet, but not enough. My seniors will love it.
ReplyDeleteOur National Public Radio had a great program on Maurice Jarre earlier this week. He definitely enriched my life.
P.S. Watch for my gingerbread recipe coming soon to a blog near you. I will always use an ASF mug from past performances for you! I plan to see Othello next week.
Very amusing Michael! Short and sweet, or maybe not so sweet(?) but humour helps us through!
ReplyDeleteThis is so witty! I must check out more McGough. Thanks for the smiles!
ReplyDeleteNice rooftop banner.
This is just delicious!
ReplyDelete... I love Mr McGough.. used to use his work a lot when I taught primary kids... :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comments.
ReplyDeleteI agree Sparrow, Roger's poems are wonderful for introducing children to poetry.
I'm waiting with barely concealed patience for the gingerbread recipe Firelight...lol.
Smiling Derrick...yes I enjoy the occasional italic...(best drawn a veil over methinks...grinning).
Wonderful little poem... thank you for illuminating me. :)
