Fred, Ginger...and family.

Fred and Ginger, our local swans have made up their early year tiff ...and then some...! The seven cygnets were born in the reed bed island behind the old mooring stumps. Over the last few days they have taken to showing off their family on the main river.

The cygnets are thriving and Fred swells his chest with pride at his healthy family and charming wife. I noticed this morning that one of the cygnets was trying to hitch a ride between mum's wings - but Ginger was having none of it, you could almost hear her saying, 'this is for your own good little one.'

Fred, Ginger and family head back for home, quite at ease with the other river traffic and always ready for a tasty morsel from human hand.

Have a great weekend nice people.

  1. Truly the definition of idyllic. I could watch these little families all day. I'm hoping Dan and Marilyn Quail (and my ex and I have long called them) here at my place soon produce some little balls of fluff.

The photo with the rowers is priceless.

  2. Hi Michael,

I might have been tempted to think that Ma and Pa wouldn't be so accepting of the other river users with the cygnets around but maybe that was a few weeks earlier!

  5. Oh my, how I have missed your little corner of the world! Fred & Ginger & family just made me smile! (We are now comfortably settled into our house at the beach, and I am just taking a break from SUN & SAND.) Thanks for the heart warming news!
